Round 5: Vardar – Horizont Turnovo 5:1

In the night game of the fifth round, Vardar won in convincing fashion by trouncing Horizont Turnovo 5:1.

Vardar sent a statement to bring Horizont Turnovo, the table leaders entering the match, back down to earth.  Vardar rolled by the score of 5:1, scoring three times in the 1st half and adding two more goals after the break.  Former Turnovo player Dragan Gjorgiev, who transferred to Vardar in the summer, scored against his former club in the 7th minute to open the scoring early in the game.  Striker Jovan Kostovski then scored a quick brace in the span of four minutes just before the halftime break to hand Vardar a 3:0 lead after 45 minutes.

Dejan Blazhevski, a summer signing by Turnovo to help offset for the loss of Gjorgiev, reduced the deficit to 3:1 in the 47th minute but that was as close as Turnovo would get to the reigning champions.  Right back and Vardar captain Milan Ilievski made it 4:1 in the 65th minute while central defender Zlatko Tanevski put the finishing touches on Turnovo with a goal in the 69th minute to complete the scoreline.

With the win, Vardar moved past Horizont Turnovo to become the new leader on the standings.  Vardar now has 12 points after five rounds while Horizont Turnovo dropped to second place with 10 points.
