“Vuko Karov” tournament relaunched

The traditional Kavadarci based tournament “Vuko Karov” will return this year.

After last year’s tournament did not take place due to various problems (only a symbolic match was played), “Vuko Karov” will be brought back. FK Tikvesh is living its worst days as the symbol of Kavadarci is currently playing in the fourth league, but they will revive Macedonia’s most prestigious friendly tournament “Vuko Karov”, named after the famous post war time player Vuko Karov.

The tournament will last for only one day on Sunday, 15 February starting at 12.00 CET. Three clubs will participate by playing each other, using the traditional Italian model: the teams will play three round-robin 45-minute matches. If any match ends in a draw, it will be decided by a penalty shoot-out. Three points are awarded for a victory during regular play, with no points going to the loser. If the match is decided by penalties, the winner gets 2 points and the loser 1 point.

Besides the hosts Tikvesh, the other participants will be 3rd League South side Pobeda Junior from Prilep and First League club Horizont.

We hope the return of this traditional tournament will one day serve to reclaim the glory of its past. “Vuko Karov” was fist organized in 1993 and quickly became internationally known as teams from the Balkans and Central Europe participated with the likes of Partizan, SAK Klagenfurt, Donji Srem, Vihren, Budućnost and Macedonian giants Vardar, Sileks, Pelister etc.
