The 2010 FIFA Club World Cup brings a lot of interest for the Macedonians around the world as Goran Pandev and his Inter will face Sasa Ognenovski and his Seongnam in the semi-final of this tournament.
Macedonian star player Goran Pandev and the Asian footballer of the year, Sasa Ognenovski will face eachother today at 18.00 cet at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the UAE. Two Macedonians in a battle for the Club World Cup final: one playing for UEFA Champions League winner Inter from Milano and also key part of the Macedonian national team, while the other playing for the AFC Champions League winner, South Korean side Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma who as well is part of the Australian national team after due to problems with his passport failed to become part of the Macedonian national team.
Pandev will surely start for Inter who will play the same formation from the mourinho era: Diego Milito alone up from with Samuel Eto’o, Wesley Sneijder and Goran Pandev right behind him. The poker attack that brought the Champions League trophy to Milano will appear once again, but this time against the best Asian defence lead by captain Sasa Ognenovski in the center back. Cho Byung-Kuk together with Ognenovski will have hard task to stop Milito and Sneijder, while Ko Jae-Sung on the right and probably Hong Cheol on the left will match Eto’o and Pandev.
Both Pandev and Ognenovski had something to say before the game.
“We can’t wait to play. Finally we are almost all available and we can train together. It is a nice feeling for the group and we are training in the best possible way an in an ideal climate. At our opponents’ there is Ognenovski who I remember as a good lad and a good defender, no doubt he deserves our respect.” – said Pandev for the Inter Channel.
“The boys are buzzing about the game and I’m sure we can give Inter a good run for their money. They are probably as weak right now as they’ve been for a long, long time, so hopefully we’re catching them when they’re vulnerable.” – the optimistic Ognenovski told FIFA.com.
The winner of this clash between Inter and Seongnam will face the surprise of the tournament in the final on Saturday, the Congolese side Mazembe who shocked Copa Libertadores holder Internacional from Brazil with 2:0.
