Coach Angelovski had a big headache before the match as from his squad he was left with only 16 players. Pandev was released for both Nations League games, Dimitrievski and Alioski had card suspensions, Ademi could not play due to injury, while Ristevski and Totre were dropped on match day, the first due to COVID-19 related issue while the later as FFM forgot to include him in the UEFA list of players. Angelovski planned to bring in a few lads from the U21 national team, but the pandemic spread there so that option was immediately cancelled.
The match was very unattractive at the beginning with only one goal attempt in the 23rd minute when Kleida fired, but Shishkovski saved well.
Macedonia scored from the first opportunity. Trajkovski’s free kick was blocked, Spirovski on the rebound served Trichkovski who netted his 6th national team goal and first since September 2018.
Later Trichko had a great chance to double the lead, but his 33rd minute header was luckily saved by Hein.
Bad mistake by Velkovski in the 52nd minute when he lost the ball while dribbling, the visitors seized the occasion as Sappinen fired a great shot and equalized the score.
After two back to back missed chances, eventually came the second goal. Bejtulai sent a cross from the right while substitute Stojanovski headed home on a header.
Macedonia had many other chances to score, but that did not happen. Also Estonia missed a great chance in the stoppage time.
After 5 round Macedonia is still first with 9 points, but Georgia and Armenia are yet to play their match today.
