Tough draw for the Macedonian champions as Vardar will revive the former Yugoslav derby clash with Croatian giants in Dinamo from Zagreb.
Not a good draw for Vardar. Earlier today UEFA made the draw for the first and second qualifying rounds of the 2016/17 season in the Champions League. The Macedonian champions were among the unseeded teams in Group 1 starting from the 2nd round and facing possible opponents in Salzburg (Austria), Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia), Qarabağ (Azerbaijan), Sheriff (Moldova) and Trenčín (Slovakia).
Vardar was drawn to play against the champions of Croatia with the first leg being played in Skopje on 12/13 July, while the return leg is scheduled a week later in Zagreb.
It will be the first official match between the two since the season 1989/90 when both lastly met in the Yugoslav top flight. It will be a clash that will rivive the old memories from a time when Vardar played in front of large crowds against famous clubs from the former Yugoslavia.
The current coach of Vardar, Goce Sedloski, played many seasons for Dinamo Zagreb during his active career becoming fans favourite and leaving a big mark in the Croatian giant.
