Macedonia marked their third consecutive defeat, after Bulgaria celebrated a 0:2 victory in Skopje.
Four matches, one win and three defeats so far for Angelovski. Macedonia lost to Lebanon at home, Slovenia away and now Bulgaria at home, failing to score a single goal in those outings. Pandev’s return improved the atmosphere among the players, and perhaps to some small intent the quality of play, but the most important thing – goals, once again was missing.
The team had a couple of chances in the first half. Namely, Ibraimi sent a good shot from the right wing, the opposing keeper let the ball slip but managed to save it on the second try before it went over the line. The fans saw a good combination after a corner taken by Trichkovski shortly to Pandev, who sent a good cross towards Shikov, but the defender’s header hit the post. Before the end of the first half, Bulgaria could have taken the lead after a quick counter attack, but Dimitrievski blocked Rangelov’s low shot.
In the second half, Macedonia did try to create come chances, but was lacking efficiency up front and that was punished by the visitors. In the 65th minute, a cross from the right side was attractively met by Popov in the box who found Rangelov and he headed the ball home to make it 0:1.Since then, Macedonia pushed forwad, but Bulgaria knew how to control the play and even managed to score one more. Chochev got a ball in the box, it seemed dubious not to whistle offside but Cikarski might have been late. Chochev found newly-entered sub Tonev who had no problems scoring past the empty net to make it 0:2. In the end, well-known boo after the match and certainly cause for worrying for Angelovski.
