Sasa Ognenovski to be called by Australia

E-mail Print PDF
After the ignorance by the Macedonian football federation and the national team coach Srečko Katanec, Macedonia is about to lose another quality player as Sasa Ognenovski is about to be called up to the Socceroos squad ahead the Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia.

{mosgoogle} Sasa Ognenovski has never been called up for a national team, neither Macedonia nor Australia. There is still a possibilty for him to wear the red and yellow shirt, especially now when he is in top form. But, after few months of ignorance by the Macedonian football federation and the national team coach Srečko Katanec, Macedonia is close to lose another quality player with Macedonian origin. After the big pressure by the Australian coaches, players and media, the Australian FA are aware Macedonia is interested and wish to resolve the issue by calling him up for the Socceroos squad ahead the Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia.

Recently. Ognenovski with his great performances for Adelaide United in the Australian A-League and the Asian Champions league, showed his full skills and great form. The Australian media, coaches and players have made big pressure on the Australian FA to call this player in the Australian national team, especially after Ognenovski declared his interest to play for Macedonia, the country of his origin.

The former Austalian national team coach and current Queensland Roar coach Frank Farina believes Adelaide's rock of defence - Sasa Ognenovski - should be rewarded with a Australia cap before he starts his new football adventure in Korea.

"I've got the best central defender (Craig Moore) in Australia but I'm very surprised Sasa has not been recognised as a national team player," Farina said for Foxsports. "Sasa is a no-frills player - intimidating and big, his contribution has gone a long way to Adelaide having the best defensive record in the league" said Frank Farina.

Blagoja Celeski, Spase Dilevski, Saso Petrovski, Mile Sterjovski... the list of the players with Macedonian origin who played for Australia is long and could be soon longer with the name Sasa Ognenovski and it's only because of the ignorance by the Macedonian football federation who don't care about those players, despite their interest to play for Macedonia.

Unfortunately Sasa Ognenovski didn't end up getting called up to play against
Indonesia.

What a shame, it's like the FFM doesn't even care about the future of Macedonian
football (or even Macedonian football in general). As long as Katanec,
Hadzi-Risteski, and Co. get their checks, they're happy.

Sasa is a great
player and would definitely help out our defense (although our defense is fairly
solid, skill-wise), but we need to focus on bringing some fresh young talent
into the midfield.

Without a strong midfield, it'll be hard for us to keep up
with teams with strong midfield talent like Holland, Germany, and etc. if we
manage to qualify for the WC 2010.

once again he is a good player, but not up to the standard of national team, he
might play 1 or 2 games for australia, i still dont think he is good enough to
represent makedonija,

Blagoja Celeski, Spase Dilevski, Saso Petrovski, Mile
Sterjovski, all below standard players for macedonian national team, all our
players currently in national team have more skill than the above mentioned
players
