A lot has already been discussed for this match. Though it is just a first match from the 9th group, a lot is at stake. Good start for both teams will be a morale-booster for the next matches. The Macedonian squad will not be as the coach Katanec initially wished because Goran Popov suffered an injury and he will have to miss the upcoming two matches. Katanec did not called another player on his place. Katanec's colleague from the opposite side, George Burley, had similar problems when 3 of his players withdrawn due to an injuries. Callum Davidson, Kevin McNaughton and Kevin Thomson will be absent and Midfielder Michael Stewart has been called into the squad. The biggest worry for our team is of course Goran Pandev's knee injury that everybody talks for in the recent days. However, according to Pandev's and national team's physio's statements - everything should be fine with Goran till the kick-off.

The famous 'Tartan Army' is already in Skopje despite the tickets-problems. As it is already known, many of the fans coming to Macedonia dont have tickets, but nevertheless they are here. As the north stand is still under construction and the floodlights have been removed from the stadium, this match will be played at daylight with kick-off time scheduled for 15.00 CET on Saturday. Of course, the heat at that time of the day can be very high, but that is something that will affect both teams and sets of fans.

Macedonia hasn't qualified on a major tournament since its' independence, while Scotland waits on such occasion for 10 years. Both teams are of course entering this tournamet with high hopes. Macedonia has a solid squad that is mainly consisted of players that are playing abroad and know each-other very well. Scotland has big quality, that goes without saying. In the last qualifications for the European Championship 2008 they were so close to a success and they were in group with Italy and France. With the likes of McFadden and Fletcher, they can pose threat to any team.

Macedonian national team knows how to deal with 'bigger' opponents and we should look for our chance in this very first match. Calculations are already being made - 3 points, 4 points, 6 points... Regardless everything,  the players should go out on the pitch and show their best, while the fans should stick to the fair cheering. Macedonia needs to prove as great hosts in these two big matches.

Despite the bookmakers set Scotland as favs and something more than 2.00 is offered for their win, Macedonia must not raise the white flag before the beginning. Maybe the role of underdogs will serve better. Anyhow, may the best team win!
