After Renova's biggest success in history and eliminating Rijeka from the intertoto cup, they now face a new challenge. Israeli Bnei Sakhnin are the opponent from the 2nd round of intertoto cup.
Renova were clear underdogs in the match against Rijeka and managed to take advantage of that situation and surprised favorites Rijeka. After first leg's goalless draw, in the return leg in Skopje Renova won with 2-0 and progressed to the second round. Here they will face Israeli Bnei Sakhnin. They have finished the season in the Israeli football league on 4th place with only 3 points behind second-placed Maccabi Netanya. Bnei Sakhnin has some European experience behind them. In the season 2004/05, after having won the cup they played in the UEFA cup. Without any problems they have passed thefirst obstacle called Partizani (Albania) with an aggregate score of 6-1. However, they couldnt have gone any further as Newcastle from England have won on aggregate 7-1 in the second round. Informations that are coming from Israel say that Bnei Sakhnin might not be very interested for this competition and here is Renova's opportunity for passing this round as well and getting the chance to play against Deportivo from Spain. Bnei Sakhnin has lost key players from last season Buzaglo, Yaborian and Apusto - those three have together scored more than 60% of the goals for the team. Considering Renova, manager Vlatko Kostov can pick from a full squad including Pance Stojanov after he missed the return leg against Rijeka due to a broken nose. After club's initial success Renova should not stop here and should continuw living their European dream. The chances for passing this round as well are definitely not low and with repeat of the performance against Rijeka from last week on Gradski, Renova can definitely take something from this match. The match will be played on Gradski Stadium in Skopje and is scheduled for Sunday, 6th of July at 18.00 CET. Referee will be Markus Strömbergsson from Sweden and his assistants will be Magnus Sjöblom and Peter Martinsson both from Sweden. Though the match was initially offered in online bookmakers, most bookies have now removed it from offer for betting.
