21st of June 2008 in 18.30 CET on Kantrida in Rijeka will be remembered in Renova's history as the debut in European competitions. Renova are visiting Rijeka in the first round of the Intertoto Cup.
The christening for Renova in European competitions will take place on Saturday. Our team will leave Macedonia and travel for Croatia tomorrow in order to have two days before the match. The initial impression from Rijeka is that Renova are inexperienced and Rijeka should pass the first obstacle with no problems. And while it is true that this will be the first match for Renova in a European competition, it surely is not first for several players from Renova. Stojanov, Trajcov, Iseni are several of the players who have some European experience behind them. Plus, Renova have the u21 national team players and new signings Angelevski and Ibraimi. One thing is for sure, if Rijeka underestimates Renova than they will surely have a tough time. Renova have started their preparations for this match and for the new season about a week ago, while their opponent Rijeka just few days ago. On a positive note for Rijeka is, as it is stated on the club's official website, that their best player from the last season and fans' favorite Anas Sharbini will be available for this match after he was previously called for Croatian national team for Euro 2008. Vlatko Kostov, Renova's coach, is seeing this match as a serious test for his team abilities and Renova will certainly try to do everything they can in order to pass Rijeka. The better team of the two matches will get to play against Israeli Bnei Sakhnin before the final 3rd round and Spanish side Deportivo La Koruna. If Renova manages to pass all 3 rounds in the last ever edition of Intertoto Cup, than they will gain place in the second qualifying round from UEFA cup. Almost full squad from last season and the new talented youngsters Angelevski and Ibraimi will be Renova's roster for this season while Rijeka are giving impression that they are more or less the same squad from the last season. The squad which finish 4th on the table in the Croatian first league.
Referee on this match will be Hubert Siejewicz from Poland and his assistants will be Konrad Sapela and Tomasz Wojno, both from Poland. Match tickets prize will vary from 3 Euros to 11 Euros. The return leg is scheduled for 28th of June 2008 in 17.00 on Gradski Stadium in Skopje.
