The Football Federation of Macedonia have brought several new changes to the competition format, in particular in the second and third leagues which would come to life from 2008/09.

Regarding the first league, the rules stay exactly the same as so far. There will be no expanding to 16 teams and relegation rules apply as previously. (11th and 12th go directly to second league, while 10th and 9th will play against 3rd and 4th from the second league, respectively. The teams will also be obliged to have 12 professional players, instead of the previous minimum of 6.
The only second league from competing season 2008/09 will have 16 teams. From the 2009/10 season, the second league will be with 14 teams, for finally, in the 2010/11 the second league would be with 12 teams, from which the last 3 placed teams will go down to the third leagues.
Concerning the third leagues, from 2009/10 there will be three leagues with 16 teams, instead the 5 leagues so far. The top team from each league will promote for the second league. The three leagues will be called: Third League 1, Third League 2 and Third League 3. They will be divided in the following regions:

Region 1: Prilep, Demir Hisar, Bitola, Makedonski Brod, Resen, Ohrid, Struga, Gostivar and Kicevo.
Region 2: Tetovo, Lipkovo,  Gazi Baba, Skopje, Kumanovo, Kisela Voda and Kratovo.
Region 3: Strumica, Stip, Gevgelija, Valandovo, Veles, Negotino, Kavadarci, Sveti Nikole, Probistip and Kocani.

The other lower leagues will be regulated with FFM statute. According to that, a lower league must have at least 6 teams.
