The News - News and Information

UEFA have made the preleminary draws for UEFA Champions league 2008/09 and UEFA Cup 2008/09. The Macedonian teams have got their possible opponents.

The champion of Republic of Macedonia will start the European voyage with a match in the first qualifying round of the champions league. Our team is in the pot with seeded teams which means they will get relatively easier opponent. Possible opponents are BATE Borisov from Belorussia, the well-known FC Levadia from Estonia, Armenian Pyunik Yerevan, F91 Dudelange from Luxembourg, then FC Aktobe from Kazakhstan, FC Santa Coloma from Andorra, NSÍ Runavík from the Faroe Islands, Llanelli A.F.C. from Wales. Other potential opponents are the champions of the following countries: Azerbaijan (Yuksak Liga), Albania (Kategoria Superiore), Northern Ireland (Premier League), Malta (Maltese Premier League), Montenegro (Montengrin First League) and San Marino (Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio).
If our representative passes the first stage, then in the second stage our champions might meet SK Brann from Norway, Rapid Vienna from Austria, Wisła Kraków from Poland, then the champions of Serbian football league, Greek football league, Danish football league and the runners-up of Scottish Premier League, Belgium Jupiler League, Turkcell Super League etc.
If our team has another succesful season and reach the third phase, than they might meet with 3rd or 4th placed of the Italian Calcio, English Premier League, Spanish Primera Division, 3rd placed team from the French Ligue 1, German Bundesliga etc.
The first leg of the first round will be played on 15th or 16th of July 2008 and the return legs will be played a week later.

In the UEFA Cup our, hopefully, 2 teams will start in the first qualifying round. Our teams will be placed in the Southern-Mediterranean Region in the unseeded teams' pot and probable opponents are teams from neighbouring Serbia and Bulgaria, Croatia and Israel.
