Round 5 - Victorian Premier League Print
Written by Robert Gorgioski
Saturday, 22 March 2008
Round 5 was played in the Victorian Premier League and Macedonian Australian club Preston had an easy win over Coburg United, while Altona drew against first-placed Richmond.

Preston 4 - 1 Coburg United
Preston have improved considerably in recent weeks, after their disappointing opening game. Preston notched there second victory of the season after an excellent display against  newcomers Coburg.  The first half was uneventful, however the game come to life in the second half were a total of 5 goals were scored. Coburg had one of there players sent off, after two yellow cards were given to the same player in the space of 2 minutes. After the sending off, Preston came to life and opened the scoring, after a goal from John Sapazovski. Soon after Coburg managed to equalize. But from then on, Preston dominated the game with goals coming from captain Tony Sterjovski from a penalty, and then two goals from Marinos Gasparis. The second goal from Gasparis was superb!
Preston's next game is on the 30th of March against eternal enemies South Melbourne, which sees the sides play in front of the general public, after 3 years of members only games. A crowd of in excess of 5000 is expected with little or no promotion for the game in local papers!

Altona 1 - 1 Richmond

In a high tempo match, Altona and Richmond played an entertaining draw. The first goal came courtesy of Michael Curcija at only the first minutes from free-kick that was driven low. Richmond equalized after a long ball.
