This was the first match of independent Macedonia. The match that started the history of the Macedonian national football team. The legendary Andon Doncevski had the honor to lead the first Macedonian national team and after him Gjoko Hadzievski, Dragi Kanatlarovski, Nikola Ilievski, Gjore Jovanovski, Boban Babunski, Slobodan Santrač and Srečko Katanec have leaded Macedonia through successes and defeats.
Over one million people had the chance to see the Macedonian national team in more then 50 cities in the world on the 132 played matches so far. Skopje hosted Macedonia on 54 matches, Prilep on four and Tetovo, Kumanovo and Strumica once.
61 played matches at home (22 won, 14 draws, 25 defeats, 81 scored and 77 goals conceded). 59 away played matches (11-20-28 72:98) and 12 played matches on neutral venue (4-3-5 9:14). In total, on 132 played matches, Macedonia has 37 wins, 37 draws and 58 defeats with 162 scored and 189 goals conceded.
Goce Sedloski with 88 matches is the current leader on the list of players with most appearances, followed by Artim Sakiri with 73 and Petar Milosevski with 56.
Gjorgji Hristov is the leading striker with 16 scored goals. Artim Sakiri has 15 and Goran Pandev 14 goal so far.
